Loikaw (“Island of Mountains” in the native Shan language) is the small capital of the tiny state of Kayah, which borders Thailand to the east.
Loikaw is the capital of Myanmar smallest State named after the major ethnic group called “Kayah”, though there are a number of minority groups including Kayaw, Kayah, and famous Kayan people where the women wear brass rings around their neck and known to the world disrespectfully as giraffe women or the Padaung longneck.
